Global warming puts the polar bears at risk of extinction. Polar bears hunt their on the Arctic sea ice during the winter, storing the fat they will need when spring thaw forces them ashore to fast until the ice returns in the fall. The sea ice is now melting earlier and forming later, leaving the bears with less time to hunt. When the ice melts, the bears must fast for months on land waiting for the sea ice to return. As the periods without food become longer, the overall body condition of these polar bears deteriorates. Bears can become so thin that they may no longer be able to reproduce.
Please preserve habitat for beloved wildlife, like polar bears, and keep wild places wild for future generations. - Kim Chavez
